Welcome to my first blog post. The other day I noticed a black and white bird eating suet at a local birdfeeder. While she ate, she had a certain pecking motion that sparked my curiosity. I quickly galloped to the pine tree where she was located when my bright, orange coat startled her and she quickly flew away. Sigh! Then I remembered, good things often come to those who patiently wait. So I trotted up the tree where I sat still and remained quiet for a long time. Finally, this beautiful bird returned to the feeder where she and I talked for quite awhile. She told me that she was a downy woodpecker. Did you know woodpeckers peck up to 20 times per second and they average a total of 10,000 pecks per day? What's even more amazing is that they don't get a headache. Now that's a miracle!
